This is the 13th year of the Iams Home 4 the Holidays adoption drive! One of the world’s largest pet adoption programs, this annual adoption program, held in partnership with the incredible Helen Woodward Animal Center, has set a goal of finding new homes for 1.5 million orphaned pets around the world. Since the program began, it has helped 5.8 million pets find loving homes.

From now through January 3, 2012, Iams and Helen Woodward Animal Center will team up with over 3,500 animal organizations worldwide for this special event. Every pet adopted through the program will receive an Iams adoption kit loaded with important information about nutrition, training and proper care to ensure their relationship with the new animal starts off on the right paw.

“Each year, as many as 4 million orphaned dogs and cats are euthanized due to shelter overcrowding – that is approximately one pet every eight seconds,” said Mike Arms, founder of the adoption drive and president of Helen Woodward Animal Center. “Since partnering with Iams on the adoption drive 13 years ago, we have really seen the benefit of what this program can do for orphaned animals, and the families who adopt.”

How Everyone Can Help
Along with the adoption portion of the program, the campaign is also providing shelters and rescues with much needed food donations. With the help of consumers, the Iams Bags 4 Bowls program aims to donate 5 million meals to animals housed in participating organizations. You can lend a hand by simply:

• Visiting the Iams Facebook page and clicking to “Like” the page or various messages, photos, videos, etc. For each “Like” comment, photo posted, etc., Iams will donate meals.

• Becoming a fan of the Iams Facebook page and creating a custom adoption announcement or holiday card to share the news of your new four-legged family member or just send a season’s greeting to your family and friends. For each card created and shared, Iams will donate meals.

• Purchasing specially-marked packages of Iams dog or cat food during the duration of the campaign. For every specially-marked package sold, Iams will donate one bowl of food to a participating Iams Home 4 The Holidays animal organization.

Paw Print Adventures with Ziggy™: Petroglyph National Monument

     Ziggy's latest adventure was the Petroglyph National Monument, Albuquerque.  A petroglyph is a volcanic rock carving created by a stone chisel, and a hammerstone.  There are over 25,000 petroglyph rocks at the monument.  The petroglyphs were created by the ancestors of today's Pueblo Indians.  They were carved from about 1300 through the late 1680s. From the top of the canyon, the views of Sandia Peak are breathtaking.  Ziggy enjoyed trotting along the boardwalk, as his brothers enjoyed the view.

     Our medium for Ziggy's paw print was a pond rock we brought from home, and a non-toxic vegetable ink stamp pad.  The result?  Ziggy's version of a petroglyph!  Ok, so it isn't a carving, but it's still really cute.

The Unpuppy Post

     I just love blogging.  This is an amazing experience.  Who would have thought it?  Me, the stay-at-home mother of four children, and just as many pups, a blogger.  Strange. 
     You know, I love all of my new friends, too.  Even on Facebook, I currently have 1652 "friends."  I know there are people out there with more than that, but before the pups, I had 17.  The pups have created a whole new world for me.  One I didn't even know existed!  Here comes the bad part....
     I enjoy looking over all the other blogs.  Some of the photography is simply brilliant.  The thing of it is, I can't seem to tell anyone how wonderful their work is.  For some reason, I haven't yet figured out why, the computer will not allow me to leave any comments.  It doesn't matter, who, what, where, when, or why.  Nothing.  Nada.   It's very aggravating when you can't make the computer do what you want it do, or think it should be able to do. 
     So this is for everyone who reads, (like it or not), stops by, or takes the time to leave a comment...Thank you!  I can't tell you how much it makes me smile to know you stopped by.  I'm very sorry I'm not computer savvy.  I feel terrible, and don't want everyone to think I'm being rude.  I just can't seem to leave a comment.  I love each and every last blog I've read.  You all have incredible animals, with beautiful stories.  Thank you for giving me the opportunity to laugh, cry, or struggle, along with you.

Ziggy's Diamondback Rattlesnake

     Ziggy's recent adventure was a trip to Hard Rock Pavilion.  My daughter and I were headed to the Def Leppard concert.   Well, Ziggy didn't get to go to the concert, but he enjoys going for a ride in the car.  (As do all of the pups!)  Just off the highway, on the median near the pavilion, there are two humongous Diamondback Rattlesnakes made of rock. They are each 400 feet in length!  I couldn't resist putting our little tiny Ziggy in front of this amazing sight!

     Again, the medium was sand and water.  We weren't too happy with the results.  Due to the rising temperatures of the afternoon southwestern sun, we quickly took our photos, and got Ziggy out of the heat.  The heat wasn't the only problem we had, the camera kept picking up the sun.  This led to a sun flare (both photos where he's laying on the ground). 
     This is Ziggy's second adventure, and my family is starting to have fun with this idea.  (I'm really glad, too!)
