Recently, we were contacted by Hartz representative Megan Fleming, to help raise awareness of the collaborative effort of Hartz, and the Wounded Warrior Project.
The Wounded Warrior Project was founded in 2003. Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) began when several veterans and friends, moved by stories of the first wounded service members returning home from Afghanistan and Iraq, took action to help others in need. What started as a program to provide comfort items to wounded service members has grown into a complete rehabilitative effort to assist warriors as they recover and transition back to civilian life. Thousands of wounded warriors and caregivers receive support each year through WWP programs designed to nurture the mind and body, and encourage economic empowerment. You might be wondering how the WWP fits into a blog about dogs. The WWP provides canine therapy to assist soldiers. (After Action, Volume 3, 2010) Having a dog during the recovery process allows warriors to avoid the awkwardness of transitioning back into society. In other words, people focus on the dog, and not on the rehabilitating warrior. In order to raise awareness and support from pet parents all over the nation, Hartz has started two major initiatives:

Hartz has recently released special WWP Military Dog toys created in collaboration with the WWP. For each Military Dog toy sold, Hartz will donate $1 to the WWP. (The toys can be found nationally at Amazon.com and Walmart through the end of May).

In the first two years of the partnership with the WWP, Hartz has already been able to contribute $265,000.
